About This Assessment

What is the Dark Room Assessment?

The Dark Room Assessment is a free 36 question evaluation designed by Dr. Johnathan Hines to help you identify whether you are being manipulated by a narcissist, sociopath, or psychopath. It measures six categories of manipulation: gaslighting, trauma bonding, identity erosion, isolation, emotional exploitation, and control tactics. Your results include a risk level, a tactics detected grid, a predator type analysis, and the five phase escape protocol.

How does the assessment work?

You answer 36 questions about your relationship experiences. Each question has four response options ranging from no concern to severe concern. The assessment calculates scores across six manipulation categories, identifies which specific tactics are being used against you, determines which predator type most closely matches the pattern, and provides the appropriate phase of the Dark Room Escape Protocol for your situation.

Who created this assessment?

Dr. Johnathan Hines, a Christian coach in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma with over 35,000 clinical hours since 2007. Dr. Hines specializes in helping men escape toxic and manipulative relationships through private coaching at drhinesinc.com.

What are the three predator types?

Type I is the Narcissist, who feeds on admiration and uses emotional manipulation to maintain control. Type II is the Sociopath, a calculated manipulator who treats people as tools and plays the long game. Type III is the Psychopath, who operates with complete emotional detachment and is the most dangerous of the three. The assessment identifies which type most closely matches the pattern of manipulation you are experiencing.
